Our Children’s Ministry is a collaborative of all departments, auxiliaries and ministries that touch the very fabric of the children of the Church of God in Christ.

Our Children’s Ministry enables leaders to focus on ministry support when working with Children, and also allows children to take advantage of all of the various ministry opportunities made available by the Church of God in Christ and those that partner along with us.

Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a reward from Him. With these rewards also come responsibilities. As stewards of God’s children, parents are responsible for helping children grow physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.

We the church, also have a responsibility toward children; we are to creatively minister to their spiritual needs through the word of God. If we want our children to grow up with a solid Christian foundation, it is essential that we invest time in them while they are young.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6.

Our goal is to provide training for children everywhere through an extensive range of auxiliaries, programs and activities.  The Children’s Ministry of the Church of God in Christ works to serve the children of our church by helping them to learn biblical principles, understanding of the Christian faith, and lead them to Christ

The Sunshine Band age is from 2-12years old. The Sunshine Band challenges our little people to learn about the bible at an early age. It teaches them the books of the bible, the Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, bible characters and bible stories. It also teaches them about respect for others as well as for themselves. The Sunshine band promotes self-esteem, self-assurance, and guidance on being a child of the King.

The Sunshine Band teaches Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” The Sunshine Band & Children’s Church encourages children to read and study their Bibles. We apply Bible study through plays, skits, musicals, min-messages, memorizations and more. The primary focus of the Sunshine Band, is to offer an opportunity for them to receive salvation in their productive years. Through meaningful and wholesome activities such as music, Bible study, drama, arts and crafts, and special worship services, retreats and workshops. We strive to build partnerships between the home, school and church.

Co-Presidents

Elder Charleston and Algerita Sanders have been married for 23 years and have six children.
For nearly 30 years, Elder Charleston has worked with children of all ages; in elementary school, high
school, and higher education. His desire is for children (especially young boys and men) to be confident
in who God has designed and predestined them to be. Elder Charleston, who serves the church
tirelessly, believes in teaching children (and adults) the keys to finding success: excellence, enthusiasm,
excitement, effort, and energy.
Sister Algerita has a devoted much of her time to homeschooling their six children and serving children
within the Sunshine Band, locally, jurisdictionally, and internationally. She has served as a Sunshine
Band President for 17 years. Sister Algerita believes that all children, when given the right tools,
instruction, and guidance, have the ability to be successful-spiritually, naturally, and academically.
In 2021, General Supervisor Barbara McCoo-Lewis appointed Elder Charleston and Sister Algerita to
serve as the first husband-and-wife co-presidents of the International Sunshine Band. Since that time,
they have made strides to connect the children of the Sunshine Band, worldwide, using various
platforms to engage and interact with the children and presidents of the Sunshine Band.
In January 2024, they revamped and relaunched Super Saturday which are episodes full of engaging
Bible stories, object lessons, songs, jokes, and special “Super Kid” highlights showcasing the God-given
gifts and talents of the Sunshine Band children.
While continuing the great legacy of the Sunshine Band, Elder Charleston and Sister Algerita are
committed to equipping parents, teachers, and Sunshine Band presidents with the necessary tools to
become and/or remain relevant within our churches and communities.
